Just last week, the Financial Times published a report on Mr. Rachminov's 'Fancy Color Research Foundation.' His effort to establish leading authority in assessing value of rare gems coincides with a softening on luxury fashion sales. While the luxury watch industry is directly hit with the fluctuations of the Swiss franc and Euro, it seems that hard luxury, such as high jewelry, is well positioned to weather the storm. We may soon see an emphasis on in-house high jewelry lines and observe the market moving from chasing the "it" bag to chasing the "it" necklace or bracelet.
