Luxury's omnipresence makes it a political target

The two pipe bombs that exploded outside a luxury mall in Bangkok are a clear sign of how vulnerable luxury destinations have become in parts of the planet. While the political reasons behind the attack are different, yesterday's incident brings to mind the attack against the Taj Mahal luxury hotel in 2008. Public spaces are always easy targets but luxury malls are weekend destinations in several locations in Asia. One wonders about the type of leadership that luxury brands can demonstrate as they establish physical presence in locations where democracy is clearly absent.
